Twitch backlash over content being used for AI

Well in another totally shocking move (not!) Twitch is facing a backlash over allowing users content to be used to train Amazons AI models and until recently it was opt-in automatically with no option to opt-out. Now as I see it there are a lot of problems with this but the main one being it is illegal in a lot of places like the UK and the EU as it stands and I’m guessing that rather than it being a case of Twitch having the users best interests at heart it is more likely that the threats of legal action and massive fines prompted the changes. Once again the US tech giants seem happy to just follow a path that helps them rather than the users. The bosses at Twitch have admitted that they chose to make it an automatic opt-in because otherwise everyone would have opted out – and that admission is surely going to land them in big trouble in the coming months.

However on a serious note, this means once again I cannot really do anything but say that livestreamers should really avoid Twitch if they can as this behaviour is simply not good enough. However I also have to say that recently all I am hearing from people who host things and are high up on business servers and admin that everything is pretty much being scraped for AI and that scraping, bots and just general wholesale theft of content is using more bandwidth than actual users. This kind of abuse will only see a lot of people use the internet less rather than more…
