Yes it is almost like I have a Time Travel machine, but for various reasons we have only just got round to watching this…. and the big question is, was it worth it? Well for us it is a resounding yes – is it perfect, nope, far from it, is the ending rubbish? Well for us we actually liked the ending though it did feel a bit rushed after the previous seasons!

So why has it taken us so long to get round to watching this? Well we had some other epic series’ to watch first like the reboot of Hawaii 5-O and that, well that took ages, plus Bones was another long one. Also it came and it went from various streaming services… so we had to wait until the whole lot was available again! We didn’t watch it first time or 2nd or 3rd because of the amount of press it was receiving, this meant we were seeing things so we decided to give all the fuss a chance to die down. Did this work? Well I think it did… we didn’t really know a great deal about it, and this helped us. With the modern tinternet if you are more than a couple of days behind a tv series, then you get to see all the best moments nowadays, so this plan actually worked…
For me the series exists on the multitude of great characters and performances. With multiple great performances, it really makes the show. It also has humour – we were a bit put off originally because there is a lot of sex in there, but I guess that is what it would have been like in times like these, and the violence is, well it’s graphic put it that way. But these things aside it hangs together well – even the last 2 seasons watched now are alright even though many said they were rubbish. Still enough twists and turns to make it work….
My favourite character was actually Tyrin Lannister – he tried so hard to be decent and honest! But the others were all good, no real duff ones in there at all. Several shining lights started their journey as well, you can spot a young Bella Ramsay and of course Emilia Clarke is one of the biggest characters of the whole show. These stars started here, and it has often been said that GoT was brutal for many of them – several stars took years out afterwards!
So for those who haven’t watch it, is it worth it? Yes definitely – there are violence and sex everywhere, and the nudity is often not subtle. Grown up TV I guess you could say, but as the largest show on tv at the time – well it works well. Negatives are there, I mean very few tv shows are perfect (Justified is probably the strongest tv show I can remember, not a duff episode at all). You do have to stick with it, and many found the ending disappointing – but it pretty much tied all the loose ends up nicely, something that doesn’t always happen. Recommended!
