The Mandalorian and Grogu Review

When Disney announced they were going to make a film about The Mandalorian and Grogu my wife was extremely happy, and when it was released here in the UK off we popped to the local cinema to watch it! At around 2 hours long this isn’t a short film, there is plenty of meat here, and we were lucky to go during the day without a lot of drama and loud noisy people to disturb us – because I am going to say it, this is a film that feels like it is aimed more at grabbing younger audiences that like a cute little guy winning against the odds! Now that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it, as I did but it feels less gritty and real than other recent Star Wars series’. Nothing wrong with that, but it is a feel good movie (no spoilers) and it flows fairly well. Also no need to have watched the Mandalorian series, but I do have to ask how you have not managed to watch probably the best series from the Star Wars universe thus far?

As we were in the cinema the visuals and audio were top notch, seats comfortable and air con on, but the perennial problem of high prices of both the tickets and the refreshments still looms large. For 2 of us, in the XL seats plus a small amount of snax and drinks, we were fleeced out of the best part of £50. Now that isn’t a small sum of money, and if you wanted to take a family then expect it to be a £100 “treat” unless you can swing some cheap tickets and forego the refreshments. Now I did enjoy my slushy on a hot day, but I had to take a bow out half way through to relieve myself because of my haste to finish the cool stuff! I missed a very small bit of the filum because of it but the wife assures me that it mattered little (and I did time it in a slow part deliberately). However my weak bladder aside, yes I enjoyed it and for me being a massive Star Wars fan it was a good 3 hours spent, though not cheap. Nice to see Sigourney Weaver in the film as well, she plays a decent part and my favourite mix of spaceships are in there too though they are not a massive part of the film. It is not a particular serious film either, though there is enough shooting and bashing baddies to mean this is a 12A in the UK though no bad language I can remember!

So would I recommend it? Yes I would, but it does help if you like Star Wars and its massive universe, and if you have had the pleasure of watching The Mandalorian it keeps the story going nicely. It is not a must see for me however but we are blessed with a decent home cinema setup right now, and I do look forward to rewatching this in the comfort of our place upon release…
