Another set of chats I have had recently is the perennial does FB listen to me, and whilst, in the past I would say it probably does I now say no it doesn’t… and here I explain why in as short a post as I can!
Recently I have stopped using Google as my main search engine and now use my own personal SearXNG instance -and one of the nice surprises is that I no longer get the ads everywhere about stuff we were talking about, because I no longer google it! The reason you get a lot of these targeted ads is because Google shares your data, FB shares your data and so both giants of the online world talk to each other and voila! Robert is your mothers brother your ads on youtube and facebook and pretty much everywhere suddenly become full of shed suppliers near you. If you want more privacy, ditch google and use a better search engine – it really is that simple, and in my case my search instance actually references google and other search engines for its results yet does not track you at all. Since I started using this system and not google and scaled back my FB usage as well – targeted ads have pretty much go down 80%, and my online life is way better and streamlined. Isn’t it time that perhaps you did the same?
