F1 Movie review!

We are big fans here of F1, we have attended a fair few GPs between us and a lot of motorsport as well, so as it is a birthday week here we decided to go on a rare outing to the cinema to see the F1 Movie, starring Brad Pitt no less. No first things first, this is a long movie being 156 mins long or just over 2.5 hours in old money, but I have to say it certainly doesn’t feel that long or long winded. It is also well known that Sir Lewis Hamilton is the producer of this movie, and whilst in no way shape or form is it perfect, I have to say we enjoyed it immensely – part of this was of course the comfy reclining seats and great audio plus picture quality…

So being a Hollywood blockbuster, with a genuine A-Lister in the title role, you have to expect that some liberties were taken, and yes they are. But on the whole it does a pretty good job of doing F1 proud. Acting is pretty decent, even from the F1 stars, and with the UK commentary team in place it is almost as real as it can get to us here in the UK. It’s not all great though, a bit of romance gets chucked in, though it isn’t too much, and there is a distinct lack of females here but I can bypass that, and there is no mention of a lot of specifics so this film won’t really date very much. The visuals are great, soundtrack by Herr Zimmer is pounding and sounds great, and the music compliments it well. The story is a bit formulaic though, but well if I say it is like the Top Gun of F1 – considering it is the same crew mainly – you would get the idea (no half naked volleyball though). No spoilers from us here, but I reckon it is worth a watch, apart from the now ludicrous pricing here in the UK to watch a film (over £25 for 2 seats for 3 hours is pushing it). But it is worth it, if not a cinema visit but when it comes to a streaming service near you in the future!
