Digital Burnout and why social media is changing rapidly…

So I post fairly often about how social media is changing – some say dying – and you have to realise that this is because it is something that is always, and I mean always, being discussed online. Social media has had a good run, accounts used to be “free” (we know they literally sell everything about you to remain “free”) but recently even this has not been bringing in enough revenue so now there are paid plans, more subs and more restrictions and the rise of the dreaded ad bombs everywhere recently has literally turned a lot of people off. The article linked below is a great read for those interested in what is happening , but I have to add that influencers and content creators are also the reason why social media is also changing. With literally millions wanting to be paid for posting, paid for making content and the inevitable rise of using AI, what is actually happening is that people are just not using social media like they used to. I was having a discussion about the tinternet in general with a friend the other day and they said something that I’d been thinking about for a long time – the tinternet in general is not FUN any more. Those days are long gone. It is also not cheap any more – subs are everywhere and the ads are too. The decline in say Facebook are rapid. The last month has seen the majority of people literally saying how shit it is – even those who a couple of months back were saying it was still alright. Facebook has the numbers alright, the most users, the most scammers, the most security and privacy issues, the most dormant/dead accounts – literally it is the biggest in everything now except seeing what you want to see from friends etc. unless you play the social media game, and play it hard… the biggest complaints are the ads, the fact you only see sponsored/algorithm posts and groups suggested to you not what you actually want to see, and the simple fact is Facebook is now for old people and those who don’t really understand or want to understand social media (I say old people and I mean in actual age and in how long they have been using social media). Will it disappear? I doubt it, but will it flourish, I doubt that too. Too many better alternatives out there taking users away and keeping them away. It will just be a content hub and not for the users, just those who use it to display their content and groups for those who don’t want to use other (better) platforms to discuss things. Anyhoo – the changes are accelerating and social media for many will never be what it was or even what it could be!
