NO F*&%ING FIGHTING! The line that immortalises Peak Blinders, the often quoted line… well all things come to an end, and as most of you know if you are reading this, this film pretty much ends the Peak Blinders lineage emphatically. No spoilers as it is only a day after the worldwide release, but if the franchise is to continue it will be in a totally different fashion. So is the wait worth it, or do you need to watch the whole shebang again to understand what has happened?
Well you could watch this without seeing the series, but for me, that would detract from the film. It isn’t 100% necessary, but the whole back story only adds to the film in my opinion. Peaky Blinders was a massive thing for many, especially in the UK, and this film concludes the story arc for a lot of reasons and pretty much finishes the story with a bang! Cillian Murphy is, as per, great in the role, and he has aged fairly gracefully to boot. Helped along by some old cast regulars and some new character/actors, the story is well paced, rounds pretty much everything out and well finishes (at least) the Tommy Shelby arc. We enjoyed it immensely though I can see it not being to everyone’s tastes (what is?) and I’m glad we watched it pretty much as soon as we could so no spoilers ruined it for us. Streaming on Netflix, this means that not everyone will be able to watch it, but I don’t think that is a bad thing as TV fractures away into a multitude of streaming apps, Netflix still seems to be the main one that most people have access to. I would have liked to see this on the big(ger) screen but as we are lucky enough to have a home cinema setup with surround sound, it still made for a good watch, the sound though if I’m honest wasn’t amazing, but then again not everyone has surround sound. Compared to something like Stranger Things where the sound is epic it wasn’t bad, just not a stand out. Here the story and acting where the stars of the show, and whilst you could see where it was going to go a bit we still both enjoyed it. As a standalone it does actually manage to still reward viewers but some might not get a few of the nuances if they haven’t at least seen a large proportion of the previous episodes. So overall a decent film and well worth a watch!
The Immortal Man
Peaky Blinders gets a film release and it is worth a watch even if many characters are missing or only get limited screen time. Solid ending to the Tommy Shelby arc of the series! Recommended
