Severance Season 1 & 2 Review!

We recently caught up with Severance when it came round to its turn in our watching queue so we can give it the time watch properly – and boy does this series need it! It starts off bizarre, and in some ways gets weirder as it goes through, but stick with it, it gets better as you can (slowly) see what this is about. It is well paced, it has plenty of twists and turns, but it works really well over a season, of which so far there is 2 with a 3rd underway. The visuals are also striking and stark, paired with music that compliments it well. Heck even the titles are striking, which makes it an engaging watch albeit a hard watch. But stick with it. I also have to compliment the acting which is excellent throughout and I have to say it must have been hard not to laugh and break under pressure (we don’t know of any gag or blooper reels) and well, they sure are engaging. Even Christopher Walken is decent (though he is rarely bad to be fair). This review is hard to write as I don’t wish to give any spoilers at all as that would ruin it for everyone, but if you can (it is on AppleTV+) watch it, I do recommend it, though I can see plenty of people who won’t stick with it…

Severance Season 1 & 2

Severance is a great watch, albeit difficult to follow until you get further into it. Great acting from the cast, I am looking forward to Season 3. Stick with it if you have the time to give to it…

Acting
9 out of 10
Great acting in a difficult to follow series that deserves the time to watch
Visuals and music
9 out of 10
Striking visuals, music is good (jazz score) and it has a look that is complimentary to the story
Script and writing
9 out of 10
Ben Stiller is involved in this, and the script is great and the direction tight but also it is paced well. You need to watch the whole season for example for it to all work out, yet still be enough for the next season to be interesting…
Watching
9 out of 10
Watching can be difficult as it is on AppleTV+ so a sub is needed. However I believe it is worth a sub

Pros

Great acting and visuals

Music is memorable and different, sets the tone excellently

Each season is well paced

Cons

You have to give it time to understand what is happening and follow the plot(s)

Hard going, no quick dipping in and out here!

It is polarising, some will just not like and/or get it
